FORT WORTH, TX – Christian Carlos Carvajal hosted Mollie Danel and BK & The Understanding at The Cicada last Thursday for an unforgettable night of songs, stories, and laughter. These three well-seasoned songwriters seamlessly curated an entertaining and often virtuosic display of original compositions and familiar arrangements.
When it’s abundantly clear that the performers are having a good time, the audience will do so with ease. This was the case last Thursday—you can see how much laughter was shared on stage, and the crowd was enjoying the kicks, too.
The trio’s song swap covered everything from Valentine’s to the subtle wisdom of donuts. There was seldom a moment my ears weren’t glued to their artistry.
Carvajal even brought up special guests Simone Nicole, Jakob Robertson, and myself to sing a few.
Overall one of the best nights I’ve had listening to songwriters do their thang. It’s enormously inspiring to have a stark reminder of what one can do with a voice and a guitar. Thank you all for sharing your art with us!!
